Check to make sure you dont have any type of call rejection set up. Dialer➡settings➡call➡call rejection then make sure none of them are check

slightly off topic, but still on voicemail.
How many of you edit your dialing instructions for the AutoDial function of voicemail?
Adding ,,, 1234
or
,,,, 1234
where 1234 is your password and the commas add a Pause (Verizon)
regardless of how you enter the pause, add 2 or 3 or 4, what ever it takes and the Press Hold #1 key will autodial your voicemail and enter the password without you having to do it yourself.
