Voicemails from people we haven't called

Hi,

For the past few days, my wife has been getting voicemails from people who she hasn't called. In her call logs, we can see these numbers look as though they have been called from her phone but she has never made the calls herself. The service provider is sending out a new sim in the next couple of days but I highly doubt this will fix the problem.
Also, not sure if this is related, her phone will not let her change the default messaging app from 'voicemail'. Whenever we attempt to change this it will revert back to voicemail, this means she cannot send any messages. What is going on here? Is here number 'spoofed'? How can we force the phone messaging app to 'messages' from voicemail?

Cheers,

Thanks, Chredge.

Your number was spoofed and used by scammers, so the people that got their calls from, showed up as your number, hence that is why you're getting voicemails from unknowns....
You should be able to set your messages app as your default messages app, if not, just install a different one from the play store and make it default.

Hi Dannydet,

Thanks for your response.

The weird thing is, the messaging app won't let us change it from voicemail. Whenever we attempt to change to messenger it instantly reverts back to voicemail. It's as if there is something stopping us changing the default settings.

Which is particularly weird since why would "voicemail" even be settable as the default message app?

Admittedly I've never met a phone with a "voicemail" app, so know nothing about this thing but the name, but I just can't see why a voicemail app would have anything to do with messages.

You are trying to make Messenger your default?
Or is it Messeges?

There is a big difference here.

Messenger is a FaceBook app, so the device may not accept that as a valid messeges app.

Messeges is usually the stock default app for texting.
