volume boost app

I've noticed when playing music, whether through the music player or Pandora, I can't get the volume up to those ear-splitting levels I sometimes prefer.

One workaround, at least for my local music files, would be to rerecord them in Audacity and increase the general volume there, though this would result in some distortion.

I would prefer to have a way to increase my Hero's volume past the normal settings. I've searched the market but couldn't find anything that actually "boosts" the volume. Does anyone know of anything?

thanks Carl - it's funny that it requires the root, since after my Hero decided to pull itself down to 8mb disk space last night, I'm pretty close to rooting it already
