Help Volume rocker stopped working

I dropped my phone and broke the digitizer. I ordered a new one and installed it myself. I plugged in the digitizer and tested all the buttons with the exception of the volume rocker, then I closed it up. It wasn't until the next day that I noticed my volume rocker wasn't working. Early this morning, I took my phone apart and connected the digitizer to my old bezel/housing (because I changed to a custom bezel since the phone was apart anyway). The volume rocker wasn't working on the original bezel housing either. I can still change the volume by navigating the menu button. Does anyone know what the problem is? I was really careful with the digitizer and motherboard. Is this a software issue? It was doing this before the update. I didn't update my phone until after I fixed the digitizer a few days ago. I don't want to have to do a factory reset just to find out it's a hardware issue. Thank you in advance. Oh, and it's the GS5 on Verizon.

would this app help circumvent your problem?

I just entered the words 'volume' and 'adjust' to see what pops up. there are a few other apps in the same line of thought.
I definitely appreciate your help. I have a volume app, along with the other ways to adjust it. I'd just like to get the physical keys working. I figure that since it doesn't work with either housing bezel, that it must be an issue with the software or motherboard. I think it's the motherboard, being that it was working fine before I opened it up. I often used the phone for Pandora and adjusted the volume. I used Okay Google to open the app being I couldn't see the screen.

Okay, here is another possiblity.
Once you have Pandora working, does the volume setting pretty much need to be the same each time?

In other words, could we preset the volume at a fixed value and that be acceptable to use when the Pandora app is running.

IF, the above can be answered 'yes', install MacroDroid and set it up to Trigger when an app is Launched.
Then have it Set the Volume to a preset level. (this requires experimentation to get it right)

I use MacroDroid for this everyday, to preset the Ringer volume when the screen is locked.. (fat fingers mute the phone before it is locked and I don't know it. so was missing phone calls)

I also use MacroDroid to preset all of the phones different volume levels on "Screen Awake", and again, I want to know that when the phone is ready to work, it is going to be usable.

Works for me, worth a shot for you.

Thank you very much for your advice. I have no problems changing the volume from the screen by pulling down the drop menu and long pressing 'sound'. Doing that allows you to control all the different volume levels. I'm just trying to find out what's wrong with my physical buttons and why they're not working.

I use Automate to control volume etc on triggered events. I wrote this flow to automatically launch pandora on bluetooth connect, max volume and click through the high volume warning. Highly recommend this app in general!
Thank you, but at the time, I was looking to fix the problem, which I did. There was a prong out of position on the contact board that the volume ribbon engages.

I use MacroDroid to do the same thing.

It sees events happen and adjusts the volume appropriately.
