VPN's

I use my GS3 on my neighbors wifi. He allows me access because I always assist him in computer problems. With all the new restrictions on comcasts internet I don't want to get his account shut down.

So my question is what type of VPN should I get? Should I get a seedbox? If the VPN is the way to go, what provider, app, service works well for android. Same for a seedbox. (These are the things I've been hearing about from my research on this) I tried Spotflux but it was a straight fail because the app dosent have any settings or anything. Internet browsing worked while app was up but I couldn't download anything. No .apk's or media files. Also I couldn't even tell if my ip address was being rerouted or hidden because the app just sucked all around.

Need some very detailed info an don't hold back on technical jargon. I need to do this right an be effective. Want to be able to download anything without having issues with any companies, big business and ISP's.

Thanks~

Maybe you didn't understand the question. It was about VPN. I didn't see anywhere in there where it asked for opinions on anything.

So next time could you please stick with the content. There is nothing worse then somone who goes WAY off track on the content of a post and trys to start drama where its just not needed.

Thanks for your cooperation and much needed is your actual intelligent responce and not nonsense about ethics or opinion...

Have a great day :)

They put download limits from 250 Gigs a month to 100 Gigs.

Not that they've been enforcing it anyway. ;)

Source for this? I can't find that by searching Google or Xfinity/Comcast/whatever their name is this week's website. I'm a Comcast subscriber myself, and I've received no notification of any changes to my service.

I use Astrill VPN. Paid $70 USD for the year. Seems to be secure, reliable and works in China. ...and if I can get Facebook or YouTube, I know the VPN is working. Thing with free VPNs like Spotflux, is that they don't work very well, or are very slow, or just don't work at all. A paid VPN is always the best way.

If the ISP has reduced their usage cap from 250 to 100 GB, using a VPN will NOT reduce or hide the amount of data consumed. If it goes over 100 GB, it's still going to be throttled, cut-off completely or billed for overages. A VPN is really to keep your internet activities private and secure, e.g. using open WiFi, and sometimes to bypass government censoring and blocking, like in China.

If you're worried about exceeding a download limit on a particular line then surely a VPN isn't going to help? AFAIK all the ISP does is count packets on the line so they don't care about VPNs or such-like.

Happy to be proved wrong though.

Dave, that's all they do, just count or meter the amount of data consumed. Doesn't matter if data packets are encrypted with a VPN or not, it's still data.

No, I understood the question perfectly, thank you. :)

You want a way of hiding your downloads so you don't get his account shut down.

Why would you need to do that?

I'm not looking to create drama, all I'm trying to ascertain is whether or not you're looking for assistance in downloading something illegal (why else would you need to hide what you're doing). Nothing more, nothing less.

If you're just looking to download more than his ISP allows, a VPN won't hide that.

Paully I agree with other here, if you are worried about the consumption of data being used, then you are not getting around that issue. If you are trying to hide what your downloading, then that is a different story. That discussion is not up for discussion here.

I just want to know what providers are recomended. Nothing more....

AND Yes I know VPNs don't reduce packet size. However they can Limit outgoing trafic to none if downloads arre a share type like a torrent or other shareware etc..... limiting data size. I know what I'm wanting to do.. I would just like input on how this works best with an android OS..

So again the question is. Ready for it? Ready? Ready now? The question is what VPN provider would you recomend for android and also has anyone combined seedbox with good results?

Realy I would appreciate nothing other then serious discussion about these topics and if you have the erg to ramble or go off track about anything else. Please this is my post and respect that.

Probably the VPN provider I use, Astrill seems to be as good as any. I have a couple of friends using it as well in China. Never have any problems. There's no Android app as such but setup is very easy, just follow the instructions on their website. I've paid $70 for the year, which I thought was best value.

... So again the question is. Ready for it? Ready? Ready now? T ...

I would say that there's no need to get annoyed because people don't answer the question you THOUGHT you asked! Part of your original quote:

... With all the new restrictions on comcasts internet I don't want to get his account shut down. ...

You then stated that the 'new restrictions' were data limits so naturally people said 'but VPNs won't get around that problem'. Before getting ar5ey I'd check what you had actually asked.

Just sayin' ..... :p
