VZW going to be as bad at ATT?

I don't think VZW guarantees any speed with their data plans, but wow, it's getting bad last few months. I had the 1st Droid Inc several months ago and was pulling easy 1.5 mb and higher. Now, with all the android devices out, cannot get anywhere near that. I'm running about 500kb in the day and lower, down to 2-300kb. Only at night 11pm and I get about 800-1000kb. I hope they can get the speed up as the phone is really slow on the internet. When to test on other phones in the VZW store and got same results on DX, Dinc, and Droid 1 so it's not just my phone. When we have to start loading pages with flash content, it's only going to get worse I'm afraid. I'm in the middle of Colorado Springs with a good 4-5 bars.

Do we just call VZW to complain? Do they guarantee any speeds?
Guess they are two different issues, ATT has no coverage, but is faster, VZW has coverage, but is slow and getting slower.

Well Engadget did say that since the Droid X came out, its users are using 5x the data of other smartphones. So once the newness wears off things should go back to normal.

I've been having the same issue for the past 7 months, used to get about 1mbps/0.7mbps, but starting the beginning of this year, it has been averaging about 200kbps to 300kbps down and 400kbps up during the day, and significantly faster after midnight till about 5am. (1.5mbps/0.7mbps during those hours)

However today I noticed it has been running very fast for me. 20 speedtest runs today so far, with the fastest run at 2.5mbps/0.9mbps during the day. slowest was 1mbps/0.7mbps with the average around 1.7mbps/0.8mbps. Very strange indeed.

On the LTE map that came out yesterday, there is a lightning bolt symbol near me, I'm wondering if they have increased their back end to this area in preparation for LTE although I didn't think this small market would get LTE so early. (small vacation town by the sea, with lots of older retired people living here and wealthy folks playing golf and racing cars near by).

So I guess my question would be, is it worth getting a smart phone since it sounds like they are moving about as fast as dirt right now? My internet is moving that fast right now, because Verizon blew a broadband card over two and a half months ago and didn't bother to get it reorder until over 100 complaints came in about slow internet and now I have about a billion and five supervisors calling me every couple of days to see if our speeds are back up to where they are supposed to be.

Having just come from ATT on a BB 9000, I doubt it. The magnitude of their problem is understated. Constant dropped calls, EDGE<->3G service drops, nonexistent data connections, etc.

This does not even exist on the VZW network.

hate to tell you this but I work in a little podunk town and just did a speedtest.net test and had 1450 kbps down and 598 kbps up so I'm not experiencing any lag.

not what i was hoping for.. this is really slow

You guys are still lucky to get those speeds. With AT&T I averaged about 4-7kbps. Yes, I mean kilobytes per second. Worse than dial-up. With Verizon in the same location I get 100kbps. Still slow, but muuuch better than sub-dial-up bandwidth.

Verizon has been insulated from heavy data usage for a long time. Partly because they had such lousy smartphones and partly because they erected cost and convenience barriers to users to prevent them from using much data. They were forced to provide it by the iPhone because users now expect smartphones and internet access of various types. There is no way it is not going to affect them. You can expect them to introduce data limits as AT&T has very soon. Going to LTE will help but your phone has to work with LTE.

Might I ask where you are getting this information?

Also, which counties are supposedly affected?

Manassas, Stafford, and Fredericksburg were the hardest hit. And I heard it from the technician that was sent to my house for free, his boss, and the four upper level supervisors that kissed my butt in over four, count it, OVER four phone calls in one day alone and they are scheduled to call back this weekend again after calling back this past weekend so I'm hearing from the uppers of Verizon since my families been customers for so long.

lol we're such data whores... And proud of it, damnit!

Hmm.. I always get quick 3G. I tested speeds in a couple different locations:

This is terrible news. I live in Manassas :(

Tested my x with my co-workers iphone 4, same server same app etc,.

My results, 1.5mb
His 4.5mb!!!! WTF!

I was a little disappointed in those speeds, but after just getting rid of my iphone 3g I could NEVER think of going back to att, Its soo comforting to know I can make a call and have data just about EVERYWHERE. vs Att when I couldnt even use my phone at my house..

Anyone think Verizon is throttling?.

Anyone think Verizon is throttling?.

this was my thought, its been slower here too, but consistently slower. used to hit just over a meg during the day and a little faster and night now its about 700k any time I test even with BB. Still ok with me, everything I do functions fine at those speeds and I just use wifi at home.
