VZW GS3: Upside down world? 4G>3G battery life?

After testing a new extended battery with the stock battery with 3G, 4G and wifi, the one thing that stands out on average is my battery life = wifi > 4G > 3G.

With the Razr in the same areas for over eight months, 3G and wifi were similar and 4G was a WAY distant third. I notice with the GS3 in the area I live, my battery life using 3G is not as good as 4G in Lexington KY (where I work). Even if a weaker 4G signal, battery life seems better than areas at home using 3G.

At some areas where I live, I get strong dBm, but weak results in a lot of places. The results contradict the dBm, but there are also areas where the signal is medium level and download & Speedtest results correlate. On average, the battery life though is less than in 4G areas tested. To me at least, this is conclusive that the GS3 has weaker overall 3G than the Razr. The results stand out too much to not be the case.

Call reception is the same as Razr (great), so still luv the GS3 bunches, but the 4G battery life seems to reflect well on the GS3, but not for 3G. For me, at least.

I have had two GS3's and both with different kernels, but same results noted above....... Do I need to reduce my beer intake  :)

Lexington has better 3G signal performance than my home areas, so I will test to see if a better 3G signal results in different battery life results compared to 4G- I would of course expect 3G to be a lot better than 4G.

I'm seeing the same thing. I've had every android phone and iphone on verizon, and from my experience, wifi seems to drain battery at about 1 to 2% per hour, 3g is 3 to 4% per hour, and 4g is 7 to 10% per hour. this is fully standby, not doing anything on phone.

With the GS3, I see the following: 4G less than 1% per hour, wifi 2 to 3% per hour, 3g, 4 to 5% per hour.
So 4G idle is less than wifi or 3g!

If I have a busy morning and don't touch my phone, after unpluggin at 7am, often by noon, it will show battery is at 98% charge. This is even with 3 email account still pushing email out, and other things syncing in the background.

This thing has incredible battery life on 4G!!

Agreed on the 4G, but I would gladly trade some of that for more efficient 3G. Unless in a truly good signal area, battery life kind of stinks with 3G (in comparison). Not the best situation if medium to weak 3G and no 4G where you live. More the reason perhaps to use the extended battery instead.

I am cereal, but Manbearpig free.

No exaggeration to say the GS3 has better battery life in 4G than the Razr has in 3G. The flipside ironically is the Razr has better battery life when comparing 3G. This also considers the offset of the bigger stock battery in the GS3.

I am really cereal.
