Wait for Nexus 5 or Get S4?

I have the unlimited data through Verizon, so i don't get any more subsidized phones. But I do have a chance to get an S4 at a subsidized price if I want. Question is, since they're not all too different should I just wait and hope there's a Nexus 5 with microsd storage at a 300 price point, or get the S4 now?

I imagine they won't release a new Nexus device until October/November time, so it depends if you want to wait that long for a new phone. It's also 99% likely that it won't have expandable memory, as Google are leaning towards cloud storage rather than local. You could however get the vanilla Android S4 next month :) Best of both worlds really! It is quite expensive though ($650 I think)

What are the chance that the Nexus 5 is even vzw capable. I never even thought of that. I can live without the expandable memory though.

At this point nobody knows, but its not likely. CDMA carriers and nexus devices dont get along

It also would add cost, and google is trying to keep nexus as cheap as possible

I think Im going to hang onto my S3. Eventually i'll complain to vzw about some made up problem, get a new refurbished phone, and then sell that as an unopened refurb and get $300 for it to offset the price difference. That's what I did to get the S3.

The more I look into the S4, I just can't justify spending $200 on it. There's just not enough difference.

If you have the S3, they're aren't that many reasons to upgrade to a new device. I just happened to move from my S3 to an HTC One simply because someone was extremely desperate on Craigslist and got it for only $250. It may be tough to find a deal like that but it may be worth looking into. But honestly the S3 still holds up in performance, and the ROM scene is very mature for that device. Nexus 5 likely isn't coming to Verizon, but Samsung phones are incredibly easy to root and flash ROMS to, so you can get the latest android version pretty soon after the release

If you have an S3, I'll suggest just hanging on to it for this year. There's a reason why manufacturer support for phones last 2 years: because that's the time the phone itself becomes relegated to a lower spec range. At this point, I'd say keep your money, save a bit up until when the S5 comes out.

For the rooting part, that is true.
