Help Wakelock issue

BladeMaster

Lurker
Hello.

Recently I've been having mysterious battery drains and I've been fixing it by simply restarting my phone, then the issue kept coming back after a while of using mobile. So I thought I'll create a thread and ask experienced users.

So the issue is this, my phone has been working perfectly fine until I've charged it to 77%, then I unplugged charger and left it alone, no apps running, no wifi or data, everything turned off and RAM cleaned. I came back after around 30 minutes and I notice it's down to 70%, the WLD shows that it's been awake for the entire time, only slept for 0.1 seconds.

It's rooted with KingoRoot by the way, stock rom, no suspicious apps. The apps I'm using are: Android Assistant, CatLog, Steam, Orlygift, Package Disabler, SAS: Zombie Assault 3, System App Safe Remover and Wakelock Detector Free.

Can the wakelock detector give you details about "main" and "pm8921_eoc"? They both are very suspicious. If you could see what app do they belong to, I would uninstall that app or disable or freeze it.

The most important thing is to find the faulty app and to remove it. If wakelock detector can't do it then try Gsam battery monitor. That app uses to be able to identify the apps owning the processes that waste the battery.

Thanks for the reply, WLD doesn't really give any info about pm8921_eoc and main.

As of battery stats, there's nothing suspicious, Android System is taking 19.4% battery and that's the most.

Definitively you must install GSam battery monitor. That application will give you the ranking of the most battery taking processes since the last charge or since the moment you want if you choose it. When you see the processes on the top on the list, you push on them and it leads you to the app they belong to. Then you uninstall it and you get rid of the damned battery consumption.

Thanks for the reply again, back at that time when I made the thread I wasn't using GSam, I've installed it after a while.

So far that issue hasn't returned.

There are screenshots.

Also a small question, it takes around a hour or hour and half for it to charge from 40% to 80%, using a USB cable from wall outlet, do you think that's normal?

Another question, I've heard it's better for Li ion battery to never go below 40% or above 80%, I've been sticking to this rule for months now, should I keep staying with it or let it go? I'm trying to extend battery life as far as possible since right now I can't really get new battery.

Sorry for so many questions.

The most priority thing you have to deal with is finding the process that is finding the app responsible for that wakelocks. I don't think you have to worry about your battery percentage or charging time.

Unfortunately your screenshots don't show enough information. Perhaps you can Google the name of the suspicious process to see if it is related with a specific app. If you find it, uninstall the app.

Thanks, I'll be doing that, so far no luck with it but I'll keep trying.

Also something I forgot to ask, for example if an app is turned off (I mean there Force Stop is grayed out) can it still somehow cause wakelocks? I keep most of my apps shutdown that way whenever I don't need it, I literally shutdown all my apps everytime I don't need it, they never start themselves back, unless it's Google App, Google Play Services or Play Store.

In general it is a bad practice to force shutdown apps. If they are programmed to do that, and that is commom, they will start again themselves, and will consume even more resources, so you will lose more battery that if you let them run normally.

A thing that I do is to uninstall or disable everything I don't use. A disabled application is in fact unable to cause wakelocks.

With my last two phones, I never had any meaningful CPU consumption when I was not using the phone. The trick is to disable account synchronization and other Google services, such as automatic backups or sending of use information.
