Want app to password protect some files

I'd like to password protect some files or a directory that contains files. These would just be Word document types of files, not pictures or movies. I do not want to zip the files. Also don't need to protect apps. Just files. There are a lot of apps out there that claim to password protect files, but the ones I saw had so many negative reviews. Are there any good ones out there?

That sounds like a great idea, but how do you do it? On my Galaxy S6, when I'm looking at the directory listing of my files, I don't see how to password protect it. How is that done?

From your PC, use Word to open a document. Select File -> Info -> Protect Document -> Encrypt with Password.

When you go to open the file (via PC or phone) you'll have to enter the password.

AFAIK, you can only encrypt from the desktop versions of Word, not from the Android Word app-- at least not from the free version of the Android Word app. (Maybe if you have the Office 365 version of the Android Word app.)

That is so cool. Works like a charm. Thanks so much for all the info. I protected the file & then on both my cell & my PC, when I opened the file, it asked for my password.

Actually, my Word (I think it's 2007) does not have "file", etc. but here's what I did, for those reading along:

in the upper L, click the circle with the multi colored squares (the Microsoft Office Button), then
prepare; encrypt document; enter pw; confirm pw; save file

It says the file is both encrypted & pw protected.
