Help Want to silence SMS notification when I notice it

I use a mp3 files for notifications to make sure that I hear the notification. I often miss short tones. I want to be able to silence the notification as soon as I realize that it's there. I'm currently using Verizon Message+ and can't find any way to make it go quiet. I'm using a Samsung S7. I'd be happy to switch to another app is that's the solution. Thanks for your suggestions.

To do that there only one option : Cut your Mp3 file for the amount of time in which you can figure out ,yeah theres a notification > Like for 3 seconds?

I don't know of any of apps which have that type of settings as phone cannot read your mind.

When I get a phone call, the ringtone keeps repeating until I answer the call. Then it stops. I want to be able to click (tap) somewhere on the screen to stop the ringtone when I receive an SMS message.
 
Does swiping away the message notification do it? Of course that may not be what you want in other respects, but it's all I can think of.
 
I've cut mine using Ringdroid. They play, then stop.

I forgot to trim once and got the whole version of the Ringtone. It didn't repeat.

Doesn't cut MID. The phone stops after 5 rings anyway.
 
I looked in the S7 manual just to make sure I had the right name. They call the button Home/Finger Scanner. Pressing that has no effect on the ring tone. Seems like I should change apps. What do you recommend?

What I do to make SMS notifications less intrusive is in the Messaging app settings I set the SMS notification ringtone to a single beep and set Message alert repetition to Never. I'm not sure if this is anything to do with what you are looking for but it works for me.
