Want to switch from BlackBerry...

Hello all! My wife and I are on Sprint with Curves and were looking at the Evo and Epic.

I am trying to find the best place to start when comparing BB features to the appropriate Android feature. Is there a place for Android for dummies?

I'm sure several ex-BB users could chime in, but in the meantime are there features in particular you'd like to know about?

For a start, you can carry over your contacts, calendars and such either via ActiveSync or by syncing with your Google account. BBM can be replaced by Google Talk. Android does push e-mail.

I guess I am just looking for a good place to start researching.

Some of my questions...

When we remember, we both sync up to outlook(contacts and calendar) on our home PC, so that we have each others and the kids schedule. Is there a way to do this unattended through wi-fi(get within range and the sync automatically happens)?

What about tasks from outlook? I know I use it, not sure about the wife.

I have 8 email accounts on my blackberry. How difficult is it to set up other email accounts besides Gmail?

These are just some of the questions I have. I was hoping to find a link or 2 for beginner type questions.

Other email accounts is as easy as downloading the app from the market, say with a yahoo email account.

My biggest complaint since leaving BlackBerry is the lack of solid Push mail on the Android platform. Maybe it's just me, but GMail is nowhere near push (minutes to hours for messages to arrive) and my setup using MobileMe is spotty at best. One minute messages appear almost instantly, then after several hours I'll realize that things have been too quiet. Do a manual refresh of my mail and boom in come a flood of messages. I'm very very happy with the platform in general (over the BlackBerry), but the BlackBerry wins hands down when it comes to messaging.

weird - I've used 3 different Android phones and on all 3 I get emails at the same time they arrive on the laptop gmail webpage

Same here. I had problems with push email for a little bit in the beginning but I got it to work out.

I just switched from a Curve to a Droid 2 on Verizon. The only thing I have had trouble with so far is push. On my BB emails came instantly. They were not pushing on the Droid so I just set it up to check for new mail every 5 minutes with K9 Mail. That is my only complaint so far. Other then email, the droid seems to be better for just about everything.

Probably should have expected that. Blackberry still rules when it comes to email. Other than that....eh.
