Not to get off track here but how do you but a contract? Also if you did wouldn't they then be able to cap your data?
 
Find someone selling a Palm Pre Plus. Remember it came with a free 5gb hotspot when they were selling it. Then go and verify with @vzwsupport on twitter, that the hotspot feature will still work without paying extra while sharing your tiered data. Have it activated at a store, also verify with the employee that there shouldn't be an extra charge to use the hotspot feature as it was included as a selling point of the phone. Next you need to setup the mobile hotspot on the Pre, and try to use it. It should tell you that you have to add the hotspot, call Verizon tech support and ask why it is wanting you to pay more and that you got the phone understanding that the hotspot feature will still work, although it would be limited to the data plan you currently have.

I went through that as my wife and I had a Palm Pre Plus, we added a line to our account using that phone for my Grandma so that it would save her a lot of money (she had a 250mb a month usb data stick that was costing over $50 a month). I verified that the hotspot would work without additional charge, and then again verified that when activating at the store (had to port her cell number to it). Setting it up and testing it later that night brought up the add hotspot for $30 to your plan. I called in and explained all this. I wasn't expecting it to be bumped to unlimited, but we got it as that was the only way they could activate the hotspot feature without additional cost.

They might not allow this anymore, I did this back in November, and the line still has unlimited data.
 
Yes an unlimited account can be bought. You just do a 3 way call with Verizon, the original account holder and yourself and switch things over. Only takes about 5mins.
