WARNING - Withdrawal of orange 2g fall-back

My 3G reception is ropey at best, but as my phone rarely roams to 2G anyway even in poor reception areas I don't think I will notice much difference.

Don't see this as a deal-breaker. 3's coverage is much better than it used to be. I travel Scotland extensively - including some pretty small villages - and rarely need to fall back on 2G.

I can see it being a problem more in large cities where the 2G signal is better than 3G at penetrating deep into large buildings.

They have turned 2g off in my area and now barely get a signal at all in the house. I am waiting for them to get back to me and if there is nothing they can do I will be cancelling my contract as no good at all.

Steve

I actually get beter 3g than 2g where I live but I could see how cutting off 2g would be detrimental, once it backfires on 3 they will surely reinstate it

Sorry to bump an old thread but just wanted to point out my phone still has the Orange 2g fallback and its nearly july 2011

I stopped my phone looking for 2g and it improved my reception and browsing speed. So I can't see it being a problem

bumping the thread again :D

i've heard that people are STILL getting 2g reception ! so not sure what thats all about ?

Re, 3g - E/E have/are merging which should be good for 3 customers who share with Tmobile so this will only increase coverage right ?

e/e (orange and tmobile) merging will only add to the reception for 2g. They can only share 2g at the mo. Since data is rubbish on 2g it wont help that much.
