It works in the rain without getting wonky and can survive immersed in 1 meter of water for 30 minutes so for me that's waterproof. I wouldn't take it scuba diving though.

They prefer to refer to it as water resistant, and for a reason. I view it as insurance rather than an invitation to use it in the swimming pool. 
One thing to note: the ingress protection rating is for fresh water. Salt water is much more corrosive, and it won't be rated for that.

The G6 has an IP rating of 68
I agree with everyone else, while it is rated to withstand immersion, it's not designed for it, so avoid it wherever possible.
