...and that's not even the most weird part. This is only happeneing when I take pictures from a top view.

I take pictures of checks frequently, and they are all being converted from landscape (how I take the photo) into portrait. So every picture I have to rotate after I take the picture. I set the check on a desk, the camera is directly above the check in landscape, but when I look at the photo in the gallery, it is in portrait.

If I hold the check in front of me in one hand, take the picture with my other hand (in landscape) it stays that way in the gallery.

What am I doing wrong here? Why does taking the picture from a top view in landscape matter and want to convert it into portrait?

Thank you for any suggestions/help.

Your orientation sensors are getting confused. Happens when the phone is parallel to the floor.

Not sure but try this -

Place check on table. Hold phone, above check, in landscape like you're taking a picture of the wall - and slowly turn down to take the shot.

This is going to vary a lot by phone because of hardware differences.

If that doesn't work, maybe try a camera where you can force landscape mode. For example, Check out "HD Camera Pro for Android"
