Weird Notification Icon on "Always On" display.

I downloaded a system upgrade yesterday "Software updated to 12A", I'm on Verizon.

Since the "upgrade" I have a notification icon always present on my always on display. It looks like the wheel you see when something is loading or processing. I went in and looked at every app on my phone and disabled almost all of them from showing on on the Ambient Display, but it's still there.

It's not really doing anything, when I go to my home screen there is no notification associated with it. It's bugging me.

Anyone know what this is, and if it can be disabled? Is this Verizon's doing?

Thanks,

Hmm, that is odd. I also updated yesterday, also on Verizon.
Usually when something appears on the Ambient Display, there is a notification about it in the pulldown from your homescreen, but you have nothing in the pulldown either?

Did you try a reboot?

Nothing in the pulldown, reboot did not fix.

I think it may be looking for the weather. I can see the weather app in the Application Manager in settings, but it is not in my app drawer. I can't open the app the look at the settings because I can't launch it from the app drawer.

Is there a setting somewhere that sets the default weather app, and or enables/disables weather display from the ambient screen?

It's probably an app that Verizon snuck in on the update called "DT IGNITE".

Go to your application manager, look in system apps.
Delete all data of it & disable the app.....

I am seeing the same on my display, also after upgrade and reboot. I also installed the updated UX5.0 from LG SmartWorld.

Ah yes, that could be: ??? @Suzi_Derkins is this the icon you see?

I don't have an icon at all but I disabled DT Ignite....don't need that crap. :)

Yes, that is similar to what I am seeing. What does that app do anyway. Sneaky Verizon... I disabled it and it deleted all the data and reverted back to the factory version of the app. Now the App info says "Enable" which to me means it is disabled. Rebooted, and........ it's STILL THERE!!!!

Go back to the app management section where you disabled it.
Once there, look for the "permissions".
Tap on it & disable all permissions for DT IGNITE.
Hopefully, that'll do the trick.
Also, take a look at all the entire app section. There's probably some new Bloatware that got installed by the DT IGNITE app.
That's the main purpose of the app, VZW will have a sugar-coated description of it, but, the truth is that it's nothing but bloatware & worse, allows for more of it to be installed without your knowledge.
Pure Evil...... :wtfdroid:

Ah, thanks!
Are your google accounts updating, or having trouble updating? (settings/accounts/google)--check to see if anything is trying to update.
Or any other account trying to update but are having trouble?

Anyone figure out what that icon was or get it resolved?

It's gotta be from a user-installed app,as the LG implementation of "Always On" shows such content.
I bet if the OP ran their phone in Safe Mode,it'd go away & then,by process of elimination,re-enabling one app at a time, the culprit would be evident.

Well I disabled or uninstalled most of my apps, enabled and reinstalled one by one. So far, it's gone. Thanks so much. If I figure out what it was I'll let you know.

At least you'll know which app the icon is coming from.
Not knowing is the worst part.
I stopped using a launcher app for a very similar reason & after I discovered what was causing it,I contacted the developer & never got a response,so,I ditched his launcher & moved to another one.
In your case,it seems like a harmless notification icon,it's just a matter of finding out which app is causing it.
In my example,it was a shortcut to a game in the Google Play Store (or appeared to be),which is SPAM in my book, especially since I had the Pro version of the app, which was supposed to eliminate ads.
I'm running on a bit,my apologies................. :paperbagdroid:

Please do keep us updated. :)
