There are millions of apps and thousands of different devices. So while it might be possible to check a particular app and particular device a comprehensive list isn't going to be practical.
The thing is there can be many reasons for incompatibility. If the game is old and has not been updated it may not work on a newer OS version (it will depend on exactly which features of the obsolete API it relied on: some apps will work fine after not being updated since 2010, others may not after just a couple of years). Occasionally you get one that relies on particular hardware (e.g. a particular gpu series), but that's unusual. You also sometimes get issues where an app would work perfectly well but the developer has been silly in how they describe its compatibility in the Play Store listing and so the Play Store believes it is incompatible.
