I've had my Optimus for 10 months now, gone through hundreds of apps, narrowing it down to what I like on my phone. I installed "Battery Mix" a few weeks ago to graph battery use and see which apps used the most power. My top 3 were:
1. Minimalistic Text
2. Battery Mix
3. Weather, US
So I uninstalled all 3, replaced with:
1. DIGI Clock Widget
2. Battery Status Text
3. Browser Link to Wunderground (I also have "Raindar" that consumes negligible juice)
I do seem to be getting an extra 2 or 3 hours of life. Example of item 1 & 2 above: (the little glitch to the right of the "9" is a black "blank" icon that opens "Telinfo", can't see it on the phone)
