What does a red exclmation point mean after someone's number who called you?

So I had a weird thing happen yesterday. I called someone and left a message and they called me back about a half hour later but I was too late to get the phone. I called back and they didn't answer. Today I look at the phone and there's a voice mail, but it's from the person I called before but they didn't mean to call me because they were having a conversation with someone they were with. This went on for about a minute before the voice mail turned off.

I looked at the calls and it says there was an incoming call from this person but it lasted for 0 seconds and there was a red exclamation point after the number. I also checked the online usage and it doesn't even show this person as calling.

How can the phone say there were 0 seconds that this person called and then have a long voice mail? Somehow the phone dialed the number but shows her as not calling, but leaving a message??

Let me just say first say that there is nothing to worry about seeing a red exclamation point. The red exclamation point only means that you missed the call. Honestly when I first saw it as a new Android user with an HTC Hero phone, I to was sort of freaked out. I quickly learned, however, that it just ment that I had missed the call. As for the 0 minutes thing, it just means that the call from your friend did not last any time. Either because you missed the call or because your friend miss dialed your number from their Recent Call Log, and then realizing their mistake, quickly hung-up.

Again, nothing to worry about.

But that's the thing is that they didn't hang up because a voice message, albeit unintentional, lasted for at least a minute. Yet it still shows up as if she hung up right away.
