What does this button do in watch later?

For some reason on watch later, there was a download button to download the playlist, and then I wanted to see if I could do it on other playlists, nope. Then went back to watch later, and the button's gone! What the heck?
 
It appeared again for some reason:

I pressed it, it said 'choose quality for download' or something, and I set it at 720p. I didn't press download because I didn't actually want to download the playlist. Next time I will though, but I bet it'll say I need YouTube red...

No, that is for premium content. Downloading is only dependent on the publisher allowing it.
 
Yeah, that's why I said 'it'll probably say I need YouTube red', and also that still doesn't explain why it's there just sometimes.

The download button isn't for youtube red. If the publisher of the video has specifically enabled downloading for the video you can download it and the button shows up. If they heven't, then you can'd download it and the button doesn't show up. It is unrelated to Red
 
Well it's the whole watch later playlist... And you can download any video with YouTube red when you're in the video. But there are sites to download YouTube videos for free, so 😉 (wink)

Well, I didn't download it because if it was going to work, I didn't want to have to cancel it, because I didn't actually want to download them...
