What good is a calendar that forgets appointments?

I can forget my own appointments without help, thank you. I hate having a smartphone alert me of an appointment with a phone call asking "Where ther hell are you?"

It's a "known issue." How comforting. The only workaround I have found is post-it note on the screen and pencil.

My G1 may become a paperweight. If Google has enough resources to have a vice-president for climate change, get into the phone and energy businesses, and be VERY political, perhaps they could apply some of those resources to making Google Calendar dependable. What a joke.

Whether entered via my G1 or my laptop, appointments randomly disappear from Google Calendar. I never know whether an appoinment I have entered will be there next time I look. I am familiar with the concept of multiple calendars (I use several) so it is not a matter of entering them in one calendar and attempting to retrieve them in another. This is an issue that has shown up on various chat boards, without a solution. I called T-mobile today--at least that is one entity with which I can communicate directly--and got the diagnosis "Known issue." They have heard of this problem before. The Tech filled out a ticket.

Please forgive the sarcasm of the previous post, but Calendar seems like a pretty basic and mission-critical element of a smartphone, and its failure has caused me some serious difficulties.
 
This probably isn't your problem, but it WAS mine when I first started entering appointments into my Droid's calendar. I'd go through the whole thing, name, time, location, etc. Then wouldn't scroll all the way down and hit the "DONE" button. So the appointment was never saved.
 
Yeah, I think I did that at first too. I think I may have solved the problem byu uninstalling the outlook synch app from my computer. I still find it annoying that software should be released that hasn't been checked out better. Thanks!
 
If you've got it solved you can ignore this, but I'm curious as to whether you used Google Calendar before getting an Android device, and if so, did the problem exist before that time?

I can understand that having multiple apps trying to sync with your Google Calendar could be problematic. Is the Outlook sync app you were using a Google product?
 
Hey Uncle Mike--

I first started using Google Calendar when I got my G1. I loaded the official Google Outlok Connector, or whatever it was called, because I had previously used Outlook and a Windows Mobile device. I found Google Calendar a bit quirky and unstable from the beginning--e.g. all the appointments on the PC version would get displaced by an hour, and it wasn't a time zone issue. Repeat appointments would just stop and could not be continued. But it was in the last couple of weeks that it stopped hanging on to appointments I had entered, whether from the G1 or the laptop. I was also getting a pop-up error message on the laptop, but the number was not referenced in the help site. I surmised on my own that the issue might be the Outlook sync utility and uninstalled it. That appears to have been a decent guess.

I think the root issue is Google's MS Exchange sync.

I have tried to use it so I could use Touchdown (exchange only) for my calendar, but it does not seem to work at all for me. Repeated events never get copied to Exchange. Most events never make it.

I don't think I have lost events on the google calendar side yet, but I should check.

You would think that syncing with exchange would be a pretty fundamental issue for gcal.

Again, the calendar application on android is a POS as well. I can't get it to open 1 day view by default (sometimes get stuck on month) and there is no set time for start of day so sometimes you are looking at midnight to 8 am.

Google may get search and email*, but they don't get calendaring yet.

* Except for pop on android, it is a total POS too.
