Help what happened to my option for a lock screen?

Hi all. I've had an Android phone since day 1, and it's always had some sort of lock screen protecting it. The other day, I found that my lock screen had gone away. Looking to turn it back on, what's the difference between "Encrypt phone" and "Set up SIM card lock"? Both seem to involve a PIN, where I just want the "draw a pattern to unlock" that I've used for years. Can I get that back, and how? What happened? Did Android security change or something? This maybe happened in the last week of January, I've just been busy since...
Thanks for any insights...

Have you had a system update? That's the only reason something like this should change.

Neither of those is what you are looking for. Encryption just encrypts the phone's storage, a SIM PIN is a PIN you enter when starting phone service (boot up or existing airplane mode) and is in the SIM not the phone.

My guess is that the setting had moved. If you tell us what phone and what OS version someone may be able to tell you more.

Well would ya look at that! I go to System settings to look up my Android version, since the options I listed were under System settings: Security, and on the way there I realized I've been overlooking something entirely this whole time! I don't want System settings: Security, I want Lock screen settings! Well gosh golly, problem solved. And to answer your question even though it's irrelevant now, I'm running Android 4.1.2. Thanks for inadvertently sending me on the right path of discovery! Case closed... :-)
