what happens to my google contacts if i lose signal?

I just got a HTC desire and have sync the phone with my gmail account.

All of my phones contacts (people i call etc..) are saved to my google account and not my sim card.

But what if i was to say lose signal or internet connectivity?

Would all of my phones contacts vanish because they came from google?

Or will the phone save them and then resync any changes the next time i connect to the internet?

I have been trying to experiment but im still not sure what the answer is.

If i will lose them until online again, then i better unsync google contacts and add them all manually to my sim card.

They're saved to the phone, you just won't be able to sync new ones either up or down.

Not sure what difference it makes, since if you don't have a signal you won't be able to call or text someone, anyway. :D
