What i hate about phones.

I hate phones, but i love them at the same time. Everytime i buy a phone, a month later a new, better one comes out. That just makes me regret buying the phone and makes me complain. Doesnt it?

Most companies let you return a phone within the first month. Just do that every month :p

as long as you keep it in good condition, you can sell them on with little depreciation, just buy a better phone that's been owned, one of the ones when someone gets it as an upgrade 'but I'm happy with my current phone' and doesn't want it.
Those phones aren't used but still have a major price cut therefore little money lost :)

Well, after I started getting serious about keeping up with current events with PC's, getting into custom building, upgrading parts the last few years... I'm used to it.

Just lets me know I need to do a lil more research. And after I get a phone, just be satisfied.

I feel if u did do some homework before getting it, you will always be satisfied. Unless u always want the latest n greatest. Then u better hit the lottery...lol

LOL +1 for custom built computers.

Phone's are amazingly easy to sort out.

First: how many providers are in your area that actually meet your needs?

Second: what features do you really want in a phone?

Third: what is the closest competitor like?

The truth is as much as you hear about all these new phones every month.. only a hand full are really going to be "practical" without switching provider.

Even if you are willing/able to switch that still limits your options.

From there you just have to keep in mind what you really want.

Who cares if a "better" phone comes out next month with a front facing camera if you really don't care about that in the first place?

If you really want that front facing camera and no one is offering it, then just wait till it comes out and stick with feature phone's if needed.

Kk. Lol. Ima do some research next time for the best phones coming out for verizon during Q1 of 2012. Thnks guys for your tips =D

A good idea to make the phone the way you want it is...do it yourself. Root it and install custom roms kernels etc. usually this will actually make your phone better than the phone that comes out the next month or so. I can say that there are a few phones that are the big talk right now ( I won't say names for offensive reasons ;) ) to come out soon. 2 in particular that I wouldn't trade my 4 month old fascinate if they paid me to take them. Its all about putting some work into it, then you can somewhat keep it up to date or better.

I swyped this so apologies in advance :D

I've come to accept the fast pace of technology and know you have the choice of either just jumping in or spending the rest of your life waiting for the next big thing and/or the next price drop. The thing that irked me was that too few people I knew had Androids when it came time for me to buy my first. My first experience was with a Droid Eris and I hated the on screen keyboard so much I was insistent on getting a physical QWERTY. A couple of weeks after getting my Slide I started trying the pre-installed Swype. I haven't used the physical keyboard since; all it does for me now is bulk up the phone. If it hadn't been for that one requirement I'd have bought a Nexus 1 instead...

Just because a new phone comes out. Don't mean it's better than the one you have. Look at the droid 1 people still loves it. Be happy with what you have. After all you choosed it for a reason over all the other phones on that day.

only complaint I have with my phone is its amount of memory though CM fixes that by installing the whole app to the SD card

Your statement can apply to all technology. At this moment, it seems that mobile phone technology is advancing at a very fast rate. The first smartphone I bought felt rather outdated to me rather quickly (after the novelty wore off). I attribute it to the fact that being new to smartphones, I could not have had a good understanding of the technology to have a good enough idea of what I want. Now that I have used a smarphone for almost a year, any research I do will have a good enough context and reference point for me.

I ditched my first phone only several months after I got it as I became unsatisfied with it. My second phone I've had for two months now. I certainly feel that this second phone will keep me satisfied for a longer period of time than my first.

To the OP... I think it depends on what phone you get. I don't feel like things newer and better than my EVO are coming out monthly (at least not in the sense that I think you are talking... I don't regret buying the phone). Now, CES had some new phones announced... which are still up to 6 months away anyway, at which point we will probably see the next EVO. I guess my point is that your phone doesn;t become obsolete in nearly the imteframe you are suggesting unless you bot a low or mid grade phone to begin with.
