What if I just don't update?

So, my music player app (Meridian) has decided to impleminet an update which "collect anonymouns data usage"...which doesn't sound cool to me. So, what if I just don't update? I assume the dev can't collect info from me if I don't update, correct? Will the version I'm using expire or something?

It shouldn't expire. It should continue to work as always. You just won't have any of the new bells and whistles that are available on the latest release.

Or that is what I think should happen.

I have a question and it's just a question because in this thread and another I am really trying to understand a point of view that I do not hold. I want to be empathetic to your view but I just don't understand it so I was hoping that you could enlighten me a bit.

Why are you against them collecting anonymous usage data? What are your reasons for being against that?

I doubt they are tracking what songs, video's or streams you are listening to. I imagine they are probably trying to understand usage trends. For example is the application being used more for music, video, streaming etc. They probably are doing this so they can tailor the app to fit user demand.

Actually here is exactly what they are looking for:
Ewiger Sandkasten: All about Meridian's data collection

The only thing that would remotely bother me is the aGPS. However if they are just looking at the country then I see no need to be alarmed.

I just would of preferred the dev to ask for users to give up that info, rather than just sayin here's what I'm gonna do. I do understand the dev just wants to make the app better, I just think there are better ways of doing it. I'm not completely freaked out about it (unlike all the other users reviewing it), if so I would have deleted it by now. I am just curious as to what would happen if I did not upsate.

im not sending info to someone in china...who knows what they're really collecting...i uninstalled, i have 3 other music players waiting to NOT collect private data.

There are good reasons and bad reasons for collecting data. Too bad this app is from (China?). Now we don't really know what is good or bad so to be safe, no.

I'll bet that many if not most people here have digital cable tv. Guess what that STB (the box..) is doing? yes, I don't have cable tv anymore for the same reason.

jdb, I would also recommend you make a backup of that APK (using ASTRO or similar), so that you have a restore point in case you happen to update (or lose) it at any point. :)
