What is a "Restricted" number?

Looking at my last phone call which I did not answer, most of the time, they list the number. This time, no number listed, only "Restricted". What in the heck is that. I do NOT like that at all. Being deaf, I don't answer phone calls at all, so why am I getting so many? I get about 5-10 a day.

"Restricted" means the caller has blocked their number so it doesn't appear on your caller ID.

You should be able to get your phone or carrier to block restricted or hidden number phone calls, so you won't be disturbed by them.

Depending on the phone it might have something like this...

Sounds like an "Unlisted" number for the Digital age. Once upon a time people had to actually use a book of lists of names to find someone's telephone number. Back then phones didn't even play music unless you were on "Hold". They were savage times.

I figured the "restricted" number would be up to no good. How are they getting my number when I don't make any calls? I use text and only to people I know.

Did you ever register for something, online or otherwise, and gave your number? Information like this has a habit of being shared or bought by unscrupulous tele-marketeers.

Most times when I get a restricted number it is someone I know using an old landline.

It could be worse I guess, I only get about 4-6 calls a day. But I don't like the unrestricted ones. Those, I don't see often.

Nope. As I have said, I'm nearly deaf, so I don't make calls. Only email and text to people I know (texts).
