What is Google Analytics ?

I think it's a behavioral ad tracking service. If you allow the cookie, they track and serve ads to your interest. I use the Firefox browser with NoScript and you can see Google Analytics listed for most sites. So far, I have been able to NOT allow it.

Depends on what angle you are looking at it from. The general concept is easy. A webmaster puts a chunk of code on their website and every time you visit the site that piece of code grabs all kinds of information about you that the webmaster can look at later. The first time I started looking at my analytics I was amazed at how much detail was captured. Browser type, OS, Screen resolution, number of colors, service provider, location, etc. Quite amazing how much information you share just by visiting google.

On the upside, I can look at my analytics and see how many people are visiting my site with mobile devices and determine if I need to develop a mobile site yet or not.

No, it's not to do with ads.

It's for those who own websites to see how many people are visiting their website, where they are from and extra information and trends about popular pages. Analysing your website's visitors really.

You can understand simply, Google analytic is as a tool to help webmasters to know the statistics of Google SE. After that, you can have the online marketing campaigns, such as G ads or SEO
