What is it?

I caught this picture while surfing for something else and it made me wonder...who here might be able to identify the car based solely on this picture of the engine?

If you decide to answer/guess, please do it as a spoiler so that others don't lose the fun of having to ponder it for a bit.

The only hints I'll give you right now are, it's fairly old, but it is a 12V system (which does narrow it down some).

I love the crazy routing of the fan belt. I wonder if that seriously affected belt life?

Can see it's got a mechanical distributor, so it must be quite old.

I've never seen or heard of it before though, and had to look that one up.

And FWIW, the last car I had that had a mechanical distributor was a 1982 Vauxhall (GM) Chevette.
