Help What is the function of auto brightness adjust bar?

I am not sure how does auto brightness works. I ticked the auto brightness function, and I can adjust the brightness level at the brightness bar.

If auto brightness means the phone is going to adjust the brightness automatically depending on the phone sensor, what is the point of adjusting the brightness bar? I am using Samsung S4

It gives a choice of brightness range. IOW it will still auto-adjust, but depending on the brightness setting it will be generally brighter or dimmer.

It's a certain level point for the range of the auto-brightness adjustment. For example, keeping it at the middle means the brightness will range from 25-75% brightness. But bringing it up makes the range from 50-100%, while bringing it down makes the range from 0-50%. This means that when the auto-brightness adjust bar is set to lowest, it will only have 50% brightness level at max ambient light, and same goes for the other gradations.

My experience today. I ticked on the auto brightness function, and went under the hot bright sun. I tried to adjust the brightness level and nothing changed, the screen brightness did not change anything. It seems like under the bright sun, there will be no effect on adjusting the brightness level.

In normal room, I ticked on the auto brightness function, and I change the brightness level, the brightness display did change.

Anyway, I am happy with auto brightness function. If there is no auto brightness, I will not be able to see the screen under bright sun and need to manually increase the brightness to see it. And need to decrease the brightness in normal room to return to normal brightness.
