What is the REAL deal?

Can somebody please tell me what is the real deal with taking over/buying a Grandfathered unlimited data contract? I had one all lined up, bought a LTE phone off of Ebay, then went into a Verizon store to have it activated. I know all about the plans of no subsidies being offered after the summer starts and whatnot, but the Salesperson talked me out of doing an AOL and into getting a new contract. Now I know that that is his job, but what he said didnt jive w/all that I have gathered from the different forums that I visit. I thouhgt that you buy your own phone, do the credit check, do the 3-way call to Verizon (or have the original owner give all of your info to VZW), and order/go buy a sim card, and you as the new owner just finish out the rest of the contract. Is this not correct? The salesperson said that was wrong. Yes, you get a phone and take over the contract, but 1-when you take the contract over YOU finish it out AND signup for an addtional yr's worth of service. 2-no discounts transfer. 3-you CANT add/delete the plan's minutes and texts as you want. I an only on day 5 of my trial period, but if he was lying just to make a commision I will gladly cancel and takeover someone else's plan. Does anyone care to chime in?

I've never tried it, but what you were told sounds incorrect to me. As I understand, you would not 3way with VZW, you would just have to keep the acct in the other persons name to keep the discount. Once that's changed, the contract is terminated and you'd have to sign a new one without unlimited data.

I dont care about the discount, but I have read that when you do the AOL and you keep the unlimited data, but can change the minutes and texts as you see fit. I have never read that you would have to add an additional year to the contract though.

I don't believe that it is an option to keep the contract in the previous owners name, or keep any discounts that the previous owner had. The whole idea of taking over the contract is that the new owner must assume any liabilities in their own name.

I only want to do an AOL of a grandfathered unlimited data plan. I'm not really concerned with anything else. I just thought that it sounded weird that the CS guy said I would have to add an additional year to it on TOP of fulfilling the previous owner's terms. So am I wrong in thinking that by doing an AOL I get to keep the plan as it is and just fulfill that contract's remaining months left on it?

I am not really sure of the details, but that doesn't sound right to me either. I would talk to someone else about it.
