Help What is using up my memory?

Saxywolf

Lurker
I have recently (the past month or so) had to delete many of my programs because I kept getting "Low on space" messages and not getting text messages.

I have been using App2SD for close to 6 months and the only app listed in the Movable tab is NewsRob weighing in at 28KB. I totaled up the memory listed for all the apps in the Phone Only tab and it comes to 32.17MB.
I've rebooted, which brought me from 12MB to 18.3 MB free.
App2SD says there is only 4KB of cache to clear, so I didn't bother to clear it.

The app DiskUsage shows a different picture.
Data: 196.2 MiB
Applications: 166.5; System Data: 11.4; Free Space: 18.3
Now, listed next to Applications right at the top is Plants Vs Zombie 15.5 MiB... but that is supposed to be on my SD card...
So I turned the filter... Select Apps... On Phone.
Now the graph shows:
Data: 196.2 MiB
Applications: 58.5; System Data: 119.5 MB; Free Space: 18.3

Assuming the filter is supposed to be on, App data is now at 58.5MB and that means there is 119.5MB of system data? How do I see what this "system data" is and exactly what my app data usage really is (58.5 or 32.2)?

Nexus One
Android version 2.3.4
Build GRJ22

I don't want to miss emails or texts so I uninstalled a few more. App2SD now lists in Phone Only:
Maps 11.48MB
Market 3.7MB
LauncherPro 3.14MB
Appstore (Amazon) 2.93MB
Alarm Clock Plus 2.41MB
Locale 2.07MB
Smooth Calendar 292KB
Authenticator 284KB
and 32 programs ranging from 12KB to 172KB

I believe app2sd isn't telling the whole story about how much space an app actually uses. I have the same issue as you and I have to be selective to which apps I download, I have deleted and bypassed a lot of good apps for this reason. This is my #2 biggest complaint against my N1.

So, about a month ago I downloaded the Amazon App Store so I could get their free app every day. Supposedly, every app I've downloaded from Amazon I was able to move to the SD card and those that I couldn't I uninstalled.

I started uninstalling some of the games I never use which were supposedly on the SD card, and I started to get free internal memory! I have 35.2MB free after uninstalling about a half dozen programs that were supposed to be on my SD card.

Are Amazon Store apps not letting go of internal memory when moved to the SD card? Is it limited to Amazon Store apps?
