What is visual voice mail?

And why would I want or need it? All I know about voice mail is that it's my virtual answering machine. I get a missed call and then little symbol on the top left of my screen in the status bar, I touch it, it calls my voicemail, and after choosing a couple numbers, I hear the message.

Why do I need more than that?
 
It's a transcription of the voice mail, so you can read it instead of just listening.

I use Google Voice for my voice mail and have it set to transcribe them. So I can read it and not listen to it, sort of like a text of the voice mail. That being said, at least for GV, it's not always so accurate but is sometimes very humorous! I can tell what the message is but it's not always an exact science.

Thanks! If it's anything like voice to text, it would be funny to read! This is why we need artificial intelligence based speech to text technology.
 
Yeah, but that's what makes it fun!

I'm really hoping that when it gets flipped/rolled into hangouts they will actually update it and it will work better.
