What is your 3G speed on Virgin?

Pisfister

Newbie
I know the speed fluctuates, but the 3G speed is disappointing. Virgin mobile, which I though runs on spring, is only getting 0.33 Mbps down and 0.38 Mbps up. I live 3 miles from a sprint tower, and there are 3 within 25 miles of me. :(

What speeds are you guys getting, and how close are you to a sprint tower??

Also, at night I get 0.91 Mpbs down, which is the highest. Is this normal? What do I need to do?

Thanks!

At least your getting some data service.. I bought the phone yesterday and have not been able to connect to the 3g network once.. Ive called customer service twice and the first time he reset my account and I reset my phone, the second time, this morning, the lady just told me that its basically down and should be back up in a few days..??

I've been using 3G since last night, its slow, but usable. I guess it depends on where you live. When I activated my phone, she told me to press the "activate" button.

0.13 Mbps down
0.24 Mbps up

At least you got an estimated completion time. Every call I've made to them they can never give me a time frame.. I hope they get it fixed this time....

A few days...
Lost 3G service each of the two previous afternoons. To get it back up, I used the activate app, get a failed screen and then cycle airplane mode on and off. After that 3G comes back on.

I'm glad I'm not the only one suffering. Hopefully they are optimizing their network and we can have faster 3g connections!

I read on a sprint forum they are getting 2-3 Mbps down... ridiculous!
0.23 mbps down
0.31 mbps up

It is too good to be true. I had to drop virgin mobile and go with at&t. I need reliable mobile internet access like I need water. Now I am just waiting for my htc inspire to come in the mail.

I'm between Daytona Beach and St. Aug. FL and get 1.21 mbps down and .52 mbps up after the network update before was about .72 mbps down and .25 mbps up.

In Minneapolis, MN during busy times(5-10pm) I get 400-1000kbps down 300-500kbps up with 150-250 ping, during off hours(after midnight and prior to 4pm weekdays) I get 1600-2600kbps down 500-700kbps up with 150 ping average. Sprint has very good 3g coverage in the twin cities so I think that definitely has something to do with it, I do get data drops from time to time during peak hours but I get reconnected in a few minutes normally.

This thread is making me reconsider my decision, I will wait for a month to see if this 3G situation improves for me. If not, I may just switch back.

OMG 0.9 Mbps down!!!!! 0.5 Mbps up!!!!11!1 @ 6:37 PM. maybe it will get better after all.

I'm new to smart phones, so can someone tell me how to see what my 3G speeds are (when VM 3G is actually working, that is)? Do I need to get an app, or is the info somewhere in the phone, and if so, where?

I am in South Western Missouri, and I have been having issues with 3g for about 2 weeks, where it will be working one hour, and the next be done. Only fix for this I have found is switching from Airplane mode, then back. I am connected to 3g about 60% of the time, I can tether to my laptop, and even play a little xbox live, but ping is bad, but what can I expect from 3g wireless cell internet lol.

So yesterday I claimed that my 3G was very slow (which it was) but it was stable and I did not receive any drops in connections. Well, today my 3G dropped like 5 times... in 4 hours. It says connected but I cant do anything internet related.

Now its slow and unreliable, best of both worlds. :(

I think I'll call them tomorrow morning and see if I can get this fixed. Maybe I didnt activate it right, the guy above me is getting 2.3 mbps, which is just a little slower than my landline dsl .

I'll report back if its fixed.
