What MECHANICAL wristwatch are you wearing?

Still wearing a wristwatch that doesn't sync with your phone and has a lot of small gears and spring inside? Does the watch have any sentimental value?

Please show a wrist shot if possible.

I purchased this Seiko in 1970. When the first.. or first affordable digital display - battery watch came out I had to have one. Armatron I think it was. I sold my Seiko to my father who wore it 30+ years. It came back to me after his death and is indeed a treasure to have. It still runs great but shows that it was worn daily. It's present home is in a safe. The pic I furnish was fetched off of the net.

The watch no longer has it's original band. My father replaced the original with a similar band that had turquoise panels just off of the watch face.

I can't wear watches because my body generates too much static electricity for them to operate properly.

Static electricity doesn't harm watches like magnetism does.

Well that's what a Jeweler told me when I kept bringing back my longine and it was spring operated. The thing run well as long as it wasn't on my arm. Battery powered watches I kill them instantly within a few hours. Maybe it's due to all the high voltage I deal with on my job because it didn't happen until I started working laying grounding cable. Oh but I was told I'm somewhat of a chick magnet :D

Could be magnetism, strong magnetic fields can make watches stop working. You need special watches with an inner shield inside the case to protect the movement.

Oh okay I hadn't thought a lot about it, but do you know of any companies that make those kind of watches you would refer me to?

So far I can remember some of those watches

Rolex Milgauss

IWC Ingenieur

Grand Seiko Antimagnetic

Casio Antimagnetic

I like the Seiko because it's in my affordability range considering I just dropped $3,200 on that longine that I couldn't wear and ended up giving it to my son and he lost it playing baseball. So some lucky schmuck is walking around with a $3,200 watch they found on a college baseball diamond. I also like the Rolex but the words ring out from my mother before she died and she told me never wear nothing on your body that's worth more than your head. Hmm over the years I found some true rang out from that one.

Thanks a bunch

i used to be a watch guy... love the shiny metal watches.. good and solid.

but with smartphone... i dont feel the need.
it has been years since i have had on a watch.

tried on the watches a year ago...
but the bands kept pulling my regrown arm hairs...
ouch... so.. no more watches.

maybe once the smartwatches gets much better...(i doubt it will)
i might get a smartwatch. of course it will be classic sports watch look.

The excerpted language from your post reminds me of an ad slogan from Bell Helmets ca. late 70s... "If you have a ten-dollar head, wear a ten-dollar helmet."

Not sure about the time frame of that slogan you're mentioning, but my mom told me that in the early 60's 10+ years before the slogan it reminds you of.

Thanks, but by way of disclaimer...It's dirt cheap, I ordered it from a Chinese seller on eBay, came with a black pleather strap and I replaced it with a decent brown leather strap and a butterfly clasp. I actually paid more for the strap/clasp than for the watch. Also, the watch is pure mechanical, must be wound regularly, and it kept awful time until I adjusted it ( you can see the adjustment point through the glass back).

Hmm now designs like this is what make China One of the leading manufacturers in the world. It got me sold, I'll take two:D

No doubt. That kind of wisdom comes down through the ages. I wonder if she heard it from her parents?

Maybe so or she saw someone get their wig split for their jewelry in a robbery? But either way it made a lot of sense to me especially when I see people eyeballing the bling around my neck and what's on my wrist then I wondered should I came out the house with that crap on or not.

I have three watches one is a bulova watch I got for Christmas six or seven years ago. My wife dropped some serious $$$ for it. It's still in the box haven't worn it once, scared of breaking it and then the wife breaking me:D.
My other watches are an invicta and citizens, both need repairs. I need to get to walmart and get me a cheap $20 watch something with a minute hand numbers on the watch face:thumbsupdroid:

My 15ish year old Tissot has hands and gears and stuff, and no connectivity whatsoever. But it does contain a battery and a quartz oscillator, so I'm not sure it's mechanical enough for this thread.

I've not used a spring-driven watch since I was 15. I don't own any form of smartwatch.

If a watch has one of the following parts, it's not mechanical in proper term:

1. A battery.
2. An electronic circuit.
3. A motor.

Your watch has all of the above ;)

I suppose a digital watch could have just the first two, but anything with 1 must have 2 and vice-versa ;).
