What program do you use when driving?

Mayhem

Android Expert
I've been using vlingo but sometimes it's not exactly reliable. I've found that it gets confused when I try to tell it numbers to dial rather than a contact.

It also doesn't recognize that my phone is already connected to my bluetooth device if I start it after connecting. In other words, I have to enable bluetooth on the phone (I keep it off by default) then power off my bluetooth device, turn on vlingo then turn the bluetooth device on again.

So I'm curious to know what other programs out there are being used and your opinions.

Edit: I realized that this topic should actually be in the Android Applications board. Can someone please move it for me? Thanks.

None, when I'm driving, I'm driving... :p

Agreed. Distracted driving is less safe. Some studies indicate that using a phone while driving is as dangerous as driving intoxicated.

Put your phone away, or pull over when you need to make a call/send a text.

I use dogcatcher when I drive. My scooter doesn't have a radio on board and it gives me time to listen to podcasts. Texting while driving is just as bad as drunk driving don't do it.

I'm not texting while driving. I'm asking about a reliable, hands-free solution to making/taking calls for the rare occassion that I can't pull over.

I have a bluetooth headset and to answer calls, I press the button on my headset and it answers.

As for dialing, my phone comes with Cyberon Voice. I press the button on my headset and say "call <so and so>" and it dials.

I "made" a screen for driving. I seldom use it, but I turn on "car mode" so any call will automatically use the speakerphone. I only call a contact I have set up as a one touch dial on the screen (and only at a light). I stop for any use of Maps or Navigation.

I use "Car Dock" app. I have a bluetooth, so I use vlingo for answering or making calls. I use Google Maps for traffic while driving to work.

Same here.

Well, actually, I do use Google Maps Nav. Otherwise nothing else. I drive stick so my hands and feet are busy as it is.

BT headset, as suggested above. They typically have one or more buttons for answering and making calls. Some even have built-in voice commands.

I love how it is so wrong to talk while driving (and by talk we're talking about holding the phone, not actually talking) but it's okay to hold a cigarette, drink hot coffee, and eat a whole meal while driving.

I usually play Angry Birds or Words With Friends when I am driving. Makes my daily commute go by faster. (kidding of course).......

Hmm when Im bored in the car and driving

Handcent
Apparatus
Google Talk
Sports Tap
Tweet Caster
Paper Toss
Tilt 3D
Foursquare (gotta check in on things while in the vicinity)

I have Onstar in one vehicle and a bluetooth enabled radio in the other so I can receive calls and talk hands free. I can also use voice dialing with the Onstar vehicle but not the other so I just avoid dialing when not in the GM vehicle. I don't talk much on the cell phone anyways.
I have used bluetooth streaming for music but the sound is
not that good. I have a separate GPS from Garmin for navigation.

I will use a Yellow Pages app if I am stopped somewhere and need to locate/call a business.
