Help What to do first....drain or charge battery?

Wife and I will be receiving our Maxx's tomorrow. :) What should we do first, use it and drain the battery to 0% or charge it fully before using.

Thanks in advance!

I believe you'll find that the manual says to charge for 8 hours before the first use.
If in doubt, go with what the manual says... :)

Plus how are you going to get these magnificent things out of the box and let it charge for 8 hours before you use it lol!:D

Completely darin til the phone shuts off.....
U will have to force it to do this because the batt
has built in protection. Then recharge all the way till batt is 100%

I appreciate all the feedback. I guess we will use the phones until it shuts off before charging.

Now, I'm just waiting for the Fedex guy to deliver the phones. Come on...come on....

Thanks, soba1, for your good information.
Neither the quick guide or the lengthy online user manual touch this subject. For even more validation I talked to a Motorola tech who indeed says on 1st use, do NOT charge the unit, but deplete whatever charge it has from the factory. Then, an 8 to 10 hour charge should bring it back to 100%. Both my Maxxs came with what appears to be 1/2 to 3/4 charge on them....

Happy Batterying!

I was curious about the optimal procedure also. Verizon counter personnel and 1 800 folks really didn't have definitive responses. A Verizon support page says for the 1st 3 cycles,
discharge completely and then charge to 100%...

Battery Overview - DROID RAZR / RAZR MAXX by MOTOROLA

The link you provide says CHARGE FULLY OVERNIGHT and THEN allow it to discharge fully.

It does NOT say to discharge it first.

All, please stop furthering the rumor that you should discharge FIRST before charging fully. All Lithium Ion battery manufacturers documentation since the beginning of time has said to charge it fully before use. If you discharge it first, it is not going to ruin it, it is just not the optimal recommended method.

For those that disagree, please provide link to actual phone and/or battery manufacturers documentation indicating otherwise. Calling and listening to a minimum wage "tech" tell you otherwise is just plain silly.

I don't think you can drain your battery to 0%, after battery level reached 8-5% phone automatically shutdown.

Mine just got here!!! Thank you FedEx for not making me wait until 7:00 pm....:D

On that note....the link states charge overnight. Does that mean 8 hours....cuz I don't think my battery knows what time of day it is....

It just means fully charge and even top it off...right?

I haven't even put the SIM card in....but it looks like it arrived more than half charged.....so if I plug it in can I fool with it tonight before going to bed?

I let mine drain then back to 100% for the first three times and now I'm getting GREAT battery life I'm at 70% after 20 hours

As the OP, I just wanted to give a quick update. Received the phone last Wednesday and it was at 60% charged out of the box. Played with it until it shut off, then charged it overnight to 100%. After the first charge, I got about 1day and 15 hours of use until it shut off. Second charge, I got about 2days 10 hours. I'm charging it now for the 3rd time.

Note, I would consider myself a light user this past week. Installed some apps, browse internet, check emails, text, played some games. Also used the GPS/Navigation a little bit.

Hopefully, the battery continues to get better. :)

ok so as soon as i get the box open it and play with it until the battery dies then charge it for the first time...thats what you did and everyone who did that says its getting better and better

I talked to a Motorola technical support agent and they said you should use your phone right out of the box until it does then fully charge it.

Manual only says 3 hours, but also states that it is important to charge your battery fully before powering on for the first time.
Just thought I'd toss that out.
(mine just came today, :D )

<edit>
Well upon plugging my phone in to charge it, it turned it self on, so i guess charging it first isn't THAT important...

<edit2>
well it seems plugging it into the computer to charge it turns it on, but plugging into a wall jack does not.. oops. ;)
powered it down and plugged it into the wall, it's at 50%.

Well i got about 26 hours off the first charge (only took a couple hours to charge to full before using) with pretty heavy use.

I'm now on my 2nd charge, I'm at 1 day 10 hours and at 30% battery left.

I haven't used it as hard, but still watched a handfull of videos on it on top of checking e-mail and calling/texting.
