What to do with old Evo?

Okay so my Evo is messing up and Sprint is getting me a "new" refurbished one and hopefully I will get to keep my old one so I am wondering what I should do with it. The problem is when it tries to install an app it gives an error code saying installation error "unknown reason-18" and when I brought it to the Sprint store they couldn't figure out how to fix it so they are giving me another for free hopefully. Any ideas on what to do with it, can you root it with out it having a network connection?

Wow if they allow you to keep your old Evo that would be a sweet deal, lol. But how this typically works with warranty exchanges is that you generally have to send the old one back to them.

Okay I didn't think they let you keep it, but my brother had a Palm Pre that messed up and he got to keep his old one.
