What uses more battery, Wi-Fi radio or 3G Radio ?

For me 3g uses far more than wi-fi. Probably down for there being much more signal quality variation in 3g. Guess it depends on where you are and how strong your signal is.

I've heard Wifi uses more battery than 3G because it is pushing more Mbps and also its constantly searching for a wifi hotspot.

For me Wi-Fi for sure but a lot of people report that W-CDMA (3G/HSDPA) uses more.

I suspect this is when the phone is in a weak W-CDMA signal area and the phone is set to 'WCDMA Prefered' instead of 'GSM auto (PRL)' and thus will continue to search for the best available signal. By setting to 'GSM auto (PRL)' the phone will use the prefered signal based on the carriers PRL list rather than constantly searching all frequencies.

Further you are from a mast the more power your phone will use to push it's signal is what I've been told. So it would 3G could use more than WiFi under some conditions and vice versa.
