What would cause phonepad screen to blank out

I recently got my moto droid replaced with another unit because of 2 things it was doing. It is still doing them with the new phone.

On this thread I want to address the issue of the disappearing digital phone pad, which makes checking voicemail, or other manual dialing, difficult.

For example, if I dial voice mail and hold up the phone to my ear, it says to punch in a number to get mesaaegs, etc.. As soon as I move my phone from my ear to punch in a number the screen disappears and then will cut in and out.

The only way to avoid this is not holding my phone to my ear and putting it in speaker mode while I push prompts.

I thought it was just that my phone was defective, but the new one I got (and I know it was changed) does the exact same thing.

Anyone else have this issue? The person at Verizon acted as if this was the first time they had seen this happen.

Thanks.

I will address my other issue when I get this one resolved. It has to do with occasional corruption of the main screen after docking and I think apps might be the issue with that, so I have uninstalled some but, for now, I am focusing on the phone pad issue. The screen on this should not be cutting out.

My main reason for posting this here is because I suspect that the problem may be caused by an app that I am running. If this doesn;t work I will post elsewhere.
