What's a good remote two-player game?

I'd like to play a game against a friend in another country. This can be a simple arcade game. I'd prefer a realtime action-based game to turn-based. Suggestions?

Although it may be not so entertaining to play between different continents due to big network lags it is still cool for places with distance within ~5000km.
