What's a good starter amount to invest on Bitcoin?

I know this a bit of a random question but what would you suggest? I've been thinking of going with $50 and then see what would happen from there. // I've been told this is a risky investment as one can win and lose money from it but I have been wanting to get into Bitcoin for ages now.

$50 buys you 0.0053 Bitcoin, at current exchange rate.
It's nothing, won't make much, and could even go down in value.
I don't think it's a great investment anyway. Too volatile for me. But it depends on your attitude to risk.
If you look at the chart for Bitcoin value, it was absolutely flat for 5 years, then suddenly spiked at the end of 2017. Looks like a flash in the pan doesn't it?
There are far better things to invest in than Bitcoin. I'd agree with the other comments - avoid it. Put $50 on the horses, probably a safer bet.

You need to understand quite a lot of things as to why crypto currencies are extremely powerful and why gubbermints hate them (especially the most biggest and well thought out ones).

You need to understand some extremely important things about crypto-currencies and why they are so very important and why gubbermints hate them... your currency (dollar ect) that you currently use that is regarded as "safe" and "secure" (which is just a load of bull shit anyway)... is controlled by a bunch of evil scum sucking pigs that don't give a shit about anything because it is not their money.... they don't have YOUR best interests at heart... not their money so they don't really care...

Remember whenever gubbermints **** up (and they always do it is just a matter of time) then they decide all of a sudden without your permission to just start printing billions of more dollars and DEVALUING your currency (they do this to temporarily hide their **** ups) because of their **** ups... they create inflation because of the incestual relationship they have with the banks... it's actually extremely sick and extremely disturbing... it's been going on for centuries now and it is disgusting!

They (gubbermints) artificially inflate the ("insert whatever currency you desire here") and never seem to give a **** about taxing and screwing everyone over by horrible inflation and ruining hard working people's lives... they just don't seem to give a ****... because it's not their money you see!

So in order for people to get away from such abuse people have decided enough is enough and certain groups of extremely intelligent people have created a new currency of their own to get away from the evil scum bucket gubbermint tax man trying to ROB YOU of YOUR hard earned cash do you see where I am going with this?

You do realise that Japan now recognises bitcoin as legal tender right?

Don't listen the Chinese that have put a ban on bitcoin / cryptocurrency and called it "illegal" - these extremely evil pieces of shit only fear what they cannot control!

And remember there are only a certain amount of bitcoin - there is no inflation there is no extra printing to hide theif ****s because they don't want to rob people remember that.

Remember they don't want people to hide their wealth away from the tax man so that they can come and steal it from you!

THIEVES (gubbermint) .... it is to get away from the thieves!

Remember these gubbermints only fear what they cannot control......I repeat... they only fear what they cannot control.... and because they cannot control it.... they fear it!

Sometimes when somebody "looks evil" they are actually the most nicest people you will find... Golem is not an evil scum bucket - he is a horribly abused innocent genius that does not deserve such horrible torment and abuse from gubbermint authorities!!

Beware... of the evil eye.... they are watching us.... they want to hurt us!

The power of crypto currencies has only just begun!

Crypto currencies are going to become the future!

"Oh my my this here Anakin guy! He'll be Vader some day later but now he's just a small fry!"

Money has no value? Really? So why are people obsessed with amassing so much of it? It has value because I'm rewarded for my work with money, not potatoes.
And while were we're talking about value, what does that mean? Something I regard as valuable, may have little or no value to someone else. The value of "things" is subjective.
Money really is the only thing of constant defined value, because we use it to pay for the other stuff we want or need.

Sh*t :/

I already bought my Nano Ledger s :/

Daaawwm... this is very bad and I thought my ledger was bullet proof lol

lol thank you for sharing this very important to know whats happening lol :)

You see I have a few crypto currency rigs going but I agree with everyone don't put yourself at risk if you can't keep bread on the table ;)

lol crud :D

nothing is safe these days!!! XD

Or property, if you have the capital.
Bricks and mortar is a safe bet.

I used to think so too but now that Foxconn wants to build their factory near here all the folks who have lived their whole lives in the area of where Foxconn wants to build have to sell their land or it will be taken by eminent domain. While you could argue that they will, in theory, be paid a fair price for the land (i.e. market value) that does not take into account the value placed by the folks who thought they could spend the rest of their lives on the land they worked so hard for. And fair value is highly subjective even without using market values. Land around me that is farmland is taxed at a hugely lower rate and it's assessed value is set to reflect that. For example a plot of land next to me that is 40 acres of good farmland is valued at $10,400. You couldn't touch the land for less than 1.8 million because developers are buying up all the land so they WILL get that price if they sell. Now if the powers-that-be were to want the land under eminent domain they could take it for the assessed value instead of what it is truly worth.
In this case I would have to agree with @rootabaga about precious metals being the safest bet among that which was mentioned here. The main problem I see with precious metals is if you are a smaller investor you likely won't have high end protection to protect against theft or natural disaster and could lose it by various means that way too. And if you are able to squirrel away a good amount, say enough to make sure your retirement will be quite comfortable, you will still have the above mentioned fears as well as having portability problems like if you want to move to another country and you try to get your stash across borders.
Sadly, I don't think there is much that can be considered 100% safe, just varying degrees of safe.

Well that's extremely unlucky. But I'm sure there's a good reason why foreign investors buy up expensive property in London. Of course you can never rule out a property market crash, and if you bought at the wrong time, you could lose out big in the short term. But overall, and as a long term investment, that's where I'd put my money. If I had that kind of cash to invest.

When I went into crypto currency I didn't go overboard - I used my spare cash that I had to make some mining rigs for ethereum I would never go more risk than what I can afford but it was a very good idea because my little work on the side of my ethereal (and other crypto currencies) makes me an extra 1500$ for free per month (after electric costs) and it has already paid itself off for what I paid for it so it is very wise to get into it.

Just make sure you get the rx 580 graphics cards and stay away from certain types of memory because your hash rate will be much lower (30 mega hash m/hs is good) you will lose about almost 33% if you get the wrong type of memory you will lose a lot in production per month and it will take longer to get back what you paid for.

Do not fear! - If you have an extra 3000$ approximately (per rig but depends on what cards you buy) you will get it back after a few months then everything else is profit! So do not stress. It is a great way to make extra cash on the side.

I have made a few already on the side and it has helped me a hell of a lot because gubbermint can't see it to come and steal it and I made back what I paid for it so I have only gained I have lost nothing :)

Gubbermint loves stealing that's all they every ****ing do is steal so this is why it is wise to hide it from them.

What you can do as well is if you country does not recognize bit coin (any crypto currency) they cannot legally tax you on what you are earning yet it is wise to not draw attention.

Also make DAMN SURE that you have a VPN set up already in place so that nobody can see what you are doing see...

Remember these gubbermints want to rob you and steal from you they don't care how hard you worked to achieve that money they just want to steal everything.

They should change their name to "THIEVES"

Do not go into the mining rigs now as I have already made my money back but if you decide to make a GPU mining rig now at the current prices (6 cards RX 580 / RX 570 / 470 / 480) be careful because it might take a while for you to get your money back as ethereum right now is at about 550$ (today) and a 6 card rig (that is doing 180m/hs in total (30 m/hs per card) can make about 200$ per month (this is profit after electricity costs)

Remember a card (rx 580) costs approximately 200usd - 300 $ per card so if you do the math it will take more than half a year to pay back your rig not like when I got mine it took only a few months.

I'd say start putting together an ethereum rig only when the price is very high but remember only risk what you can afford okay?

Do not risk what you can't afford be careful!

Listen to what some of the guys are saying but remember if you were like me when the price was very high you can easily make the money back that you spent only after a few months but only when it was like 1000$ per ethereum.

If you want to chat let me know and I will try help you! :)

Why do you call them by 'gubbermints'? I mean, I don't have the time to invest the time, money and patience to have computer mining rigs so I'd instead invest/bet and then see where that road takes me.

I call them gubbermints because they can't spell properly and that is just the tip of the ice berg but this is not always the case but just a generalisation.

Well in that case if you don't have too much capital to spare or risk what I recommend / suggest you do is if you want to spend only 500 dollars (or which ever smaller or bigger amount you fancy) or something like that on bitcoin I recommend you buy a small amount of bitcoin and when ethereum goes into what is called "proof of stake" you must immediately trade all of your bit coin for ether rum because ethereum will be worth a fortune for that small duration.

https://blockgeeks.com/guides/proof-of-work-vs-proof-of-stake/

The reason why ethereum will suddenly become extremely valuable before and during proof of stake is you will need a certain number of ethereum to prevent fraudsters from corrupting the blockchain.

Basically in a nutshell as soon as ethereum starts moving onto proof of stake I highly recommend / advise you to very quickly trade all of your bitcoin for ethereum because its value will sky rocket.

If you want to make a quick buck this is one very quick and cheap way I can think of for you to make a quick profit.

Buy some bitcoin and then when the time is right (moving to proof of stake) swap for ethereum and wait until it keeps climbing and sell you should make a very good profit .

But up to you entirely :)

You do realize banks and gubbermints despise cryptocurrencies right? ;)

But... more importantly do you know why banks hate cryptocurrencies?

Because it makes them obsolete / useless and takes the power out of their evil little hands!

And if their entire thieving dishonest empire is being threatened they will be wiped off the earth like the dinosaurs -that's why they make all these anti reports about their worst enemy which is the end of the gravy train road for them! - but that now begs the question once they disappear - how else will they start stealing?

Hmmmmm... you know... come to think of it! .... Why can't I be allowed to print as many dollars as I want to so I can too also start making money out of thin air and just print billions for myself out of nothing???

Why is such "unlimited" (only in their scummy eyes) power left in the hands of dishonest and totally corrupt people???

Why can't I start printing my own USA dollars and start buying everything all over the place??

I want to print my own dollars too!!!!!!!

I want to get in on too of this very fun game!!!

I'll just start printing billions of my own dollars too - can I counterfeit guys??

Sounds absolutely ****ing awesome doesn't it!?

Let me see how I can go about starting my own counterfeit operation - if the government can do it - why can't I!?!

Surely I should be allowed to this as well?? :-D

GUYS GUYS GUYS!!! :-D

I wanna be in on this game man!

I wanna be like the gubbermints of the world and just start printing my own money whenever I feel like it to fix all my scary messes!!!!

Is counterfeiting considered the worst crime in the USA - is it even worse than murder? :-D

Nice!!!!!

That shows priorities for sure!! (DON'T MESS WITH OUR CON ARTIST GAME OR YOU WILL DIE!!!)

Yay!!! :-D

Wish me luck guys I am gonna start making my own dollars so I can buy that aircraft carrier I always wanted but couldn't afford!!!!! :-D

Wouldn't it be nice that you could just start printing things and do as you please or do what ever you like!?!

Sounds like paradise doesn't it!?!!? :D:D:D

Awwwww YEAH!

I think you missed @rootabaga 's point there stinkman. Printing your own money isn't counterfeiting. Actually, if you invented a currency called the "stinko" and one stinko was worth a roach's weight in platinum, and then the guv'mint started printing stinkos to get their hands on your platinum, THEY'D be the counterfeiters.
