Except I've heard lookout has problems with the exact thing he's talking about - texting not working properly to locate the phone while in another country. Granted I've only heard problems with it for US users going to Europe, but I wouldn't "try it" on a vacation only to find out it doesn't work.
Also lookout uses pretty deceitful marketing practices, lying about the severity of security holes in android.
Hell, I just use Tasker. You could set up a task to where Tasker will turn on the GPS (if it's off for some reason) get the location, and text or e-mail it to a number of your choice. You could even set it so it does this automatically every so many hours.
