What's the best way to manage Android Storage?

Deygus

Lurker
So I have 32gb that I got that came with the android phone and it has an expandable sd slot so I got an sd card with 64gb more and I formatted it for internal storage but I see theres a portable option too, no idea bout that one.

Anyhow, it seems like all my apps are still sucking up the main drive that came with the phone because it is constantly telling me I am out of space...like wth...I just added a 64gb sd card to help it. I moved about 16gb onto the sd card but somehow its still sucking up all of my phone's main space even though the combined says theres plenty left but I can go all the way up to 128gb on this device but I am not sure more space would fix it.

I read online in a search that some of the apps can be moved and others cant, half are apps I need and use a lot and the other half is just games that I like to bounce around and play on depending on my mood of the day on top of a few apps that came factory installed that I don't really use but not that many for that I don't think.

I even thought about trying to root the device but its a new device so I am hesitant as to if that would help much or not...

So, any idea how I can manage the storage for this better? Thanks in advance.

1. try clearing cache
2. check if you dont have many apps or videos or file collecting it
3. clear dalvic cache
4 .check if memorycard is working properly

and for the app moving to sdcard

Depending on the phone you have, the system partition can be quite large.
System partition used to be around 6 to 8gb but with the change to Seamless Updates and a A and B system partition, the system partition could be 13gb or more.
The System partition in where everything needed to operate the phone is located and preinstalled apps.
Now with a 32gb advertised phone, you may only have 18gb or less for user data, the apps you download, their saved and cached data, photos and what ever else you download and save.

Thank you, sounds like a pc, I have some decent tech knowledge as far as pc goes but I wasn't exactly sure as I don't know the Android Operating System that well, been an iPhone user for the last decade only because my wife has iphone but truthfully I'm getting really fed up with the price going up every year for it so I figured come back to android and see how it goes again. Figured, i'd ask to see if maybe I was missing something or not understanding things right since stuff I was finding on youtube wasn't very helpfull. I had an Android a long time ago for a very short while when it started out but I can definitely see the operating system has changed so much then which really confused me.

When you format your SD card as internal, Adoptable storage, it is encrypted and only your phone has the encryption key. The only way to view contents of the card, files, is with the phone file manager or with the phone connected to a PC. You won't be able to remove the card and use it with a card reader due to the encryption.
If you format it as Portable, you can remove it and view or add files with other devices.
This is a link that I had bookmarked when I had my old XPE that still has a lot of relevant information. Pay attention to the type of SD card needed for Adoptable storage. Basically a good quality high speed card.
Hopefully it will explain things better than I can
