What's the best way to play MKV files that stream from a Windows server on my LAN?

I want to be able to browse a Windows share and open an MKV file. Is there a file manager that allows you to associate MKVs to a video player?

I use ES File Explorer for to access the shares in my home network via WiFi.
ES let my choose a video player for streaming videos and to set it as default.
I use MX Player

I use ESfile Explorer and MX player with really great results. MX can be a tad slow to buffer but once it does I never have it hang up on me.
