I don't understand this. Aren't many 720p smartphone displays already close to the supposed "retina", or that they have the maximum PPI your eyes can detect? What's the point of having something with a higher resolution?
Maybe it's just me, but it just seems like a gimmick and a battery draining "feature" than anything. Although, if anyone can explain to me why a 1080p display on a 5" smartphone is worth it, I'd love to hear it.
