what's up with this Chromecast misbehavior?

I got my Chromecast a few days ago & I'm still getting used to how it works. I watched a couple of episodes using it to cast to my TV, and loved it, then today I bought the whole first season of Big Bang Theory. Except... suddenly I can't cast to my Chromecast anymore! Odd... I just tried with content that I know works, since I cast it yesterday-- Megamind: The Button Of Doom. I start playing it through Google Play on the web using my laptop. It asks where I want to cast to. I select my device, and my TV screen flashes the YouTube logo, goes immediately black, and then the content starts playing on my laptop. And then, the TV will stay pitch-black until I unplug the Chromecast and press the little almost-hidden button on there. (well, I dunno if I need to press the button, but it seems appropriate...) Plug the Chromecast back in and my TV goes back to "Ready to cast." Okay, let's try that again. Exact same sequence ending in failure. Now, it is odd that the last thing I cast to my Chromecast actually was YouTube yesterday, and now it randomly flashes the YouTube logo when I'm trying to cast from Google Play... "No, Chromecast, I didn't even ask you for YouTube, that's just the last thing you played..." Am I doing something wrong? Anybody?

Thanks!

The button you're referring to is a reset button.

I'd start from scratch, uninstall CHROMECAST/GOOGLECAST from your devices & start over.

INITIAL SET-UP:

Chromecast: How to set it up on your tv (walkthrough) - YouTube

FACTORY RESET:

How to factory reset your Chromecast. Press the button and hold for 15-30 seconds. - YouTube

AHA! I think I just found the culprit! I went to the Netflix site, started playing a show, and chose to cast it. Same problem again. The content is being played on my laptop, but not on my TV. But then I figured, well heck, if it's playing fine through my browser window, why not just cast that tab? VOILA. The sound was lagging the picture a little at first, but not a big deal, and it caught up eventually. So I did find a solution, but it makes me wonder-- is everyone doing this? Playing content through Chrome, casting a Chrome tab and then hitting full-screen on the video? Or is the cast button in the lower-right of the video area working for everyone else?

The casting button on Netflix and Youtube has worked great for everyone in our house. We have 2 different phones in the house. I haven't seen any lag if you do it from the apps directly. But when you do it from the chrome tab it does naturally lag I think. At least that is what I have seen in the Youtube videos about it.

I cast the tab and then go full screen.

Voice is out of sync with my laptop but fine on the TV.

OS X 10.6.8 with the latest Chrome.

i don't use tab casting. i have no problem sending over a YouTube, Netflix, or Google Play Video from my desktop/phone/tablet to my TV.

i definitely recommend going with the full factory reset previously mentioned. and if that doesn't work, return/exchange it. or open an RMA with Google.

you shouldn't have to tab cast to make it work.

I did a full factory reset earlier tonight, and I just directly cast from Netflix... so cool, thanks for the input y'all!

I cant even cast tab it is so choppy and eventually video stops all together. Casting with the apps works perfect however
