Help Whats with the RAM?

I'm kind of lost on how much RAM this thing has. On the HTC website it says 288mb, on the Vodafone Australia website it says 192mb. And on the Wikipedia page it says 192/288 MB.

If you go to the HTC website here and click on the Voda Magic and then look at specs it has 192mb and then if you go back and click on the unbranded one it says 288mb....

Why the difference?

I suspect the difference is caused by different people reporting total memory and others reporting Free RAM available to user.

My Magic reports 295Mb internal memory and well other 200Mb free, but I have lots of 3rd party programs installed.

n00b question here:

My phone reports 255Mb of available internal phone memory. Is there a way to check total ROM / RAM versus available ROM / RAM?

I have an unbranded HTC MAGIC and going to HTC site reads 288 mb RAM and 512 mb or rom. Im I reading it correctly? And plus its the red and black version (Taiwan) of the HTC Magic with the chrome or silver buttons.
