WhatsApp how to use Speech to text

Hi, instead of typing or using the audio option, i want to use the speech to text capacity of my S3 to write stuff in WhatsApp ...
Can't find how. Any tips appreciated.

Regards,
Frank

When the Keyboard is showing you should see a Microphone. Just tap it and it should do Voice to Text.

Hi,
thx for your reply. When in WhatsApp, the mic is being used to record audio messages that are directly sent as audio files, without speech to texting them .

Regards,
Frank

In WhatsApp when you open a conversation you have the message entry line at the bottom with a grey mic icon at the right-hand side. To record a message (audio file for transmission) press and hold the mic icon for the duration of your voice/message recording and simply release when finished to automatically send. If for any reason you are not happy with your recording simply slide from the mic (without leaving the screen) and the recording will be erased.

As GTWalling said, click on the mic symbol next to the keyboard. If you can't see it it will be to the left of the space bar and if it is not shown then long-press whatever key is shown there and it should come up with a selection of keyboard settings and amongst them the mic.

No, i think he wants to speak into the phone and have it convert into text on the screen, so he can "speak" something into the mic and see it displayed as text on screen. Not send an audio massage which is what the microphone icon in whatsapp does. I tried a long press on the keyboard icon on the left but all that does is switch between keyboard or smile icons...

Yes, that's exactly what I was referring to.

ah ok gotit now, there is the other mic on the keyboard. Sorry didn't get it first.

Thx all,
Frank

Ah, i see it as well now, doh...it works with the normal text messanger as well. Simply pull down the notification bar and from "choose input method" select "google voice typing" "-)

I have Samsung J2 Smartphone with Android 5.1. The additional mike icon for speech input in whatsapp is not found when the keyboard appears. Only the mike for recording voice message is found. The additional icon is found in my friends Lenovo phone with Android 4. How do I get this extra mike icon for direct speech input in whatsapp? In the settings Google speech to text is enabled.

If you haven't got the mike icon referred to above try this.
When ready to type a message click and hold the emoji. A box appears with about 4 different choices, one of them is the mike icon needed.
