Help whatsapp issue on s3

Lurker
hey guys,

i recently moved from blackberry to s3. i downloaded whatsapp but found that it only works on wifi and not 3g/edge. is anyone else facing a similar issue? please please help me out.

I also just recently switched from a BlackBerry 9900 to an S3, read this thread it's intereting:
My experience switching from BlackBerry to Android

Now for your Whatsapp messenger issue. If you can only use it on WiFi then that means you probably don't have a data plan or are still stuck on your old BIS (BlackBerry Internet Service) plan from your carrier which you need to change to a normal Data Package plan that would work on an iPhone/Android

Now in my case (I live in Dubai) I didn't change my plan and kept the BIS plan which I pay for only $30 USD per month for unlimited usage from my carrier and to my surprise that same plan works on the S3. When I asked the carrier support agent he told me that is not how it is supposed to be but I should keep quiet and enjoy using it this way it's much cheaper to be on BIS than it is to be on a normal Data Plan :D

@berryracer: Thanks a lot bro. You are a life saver. I was beginning to think buy s3 was a bad idea. But i called my carrier and changed my data plan.
my pleasure bro

When things like this happen. Always think outside the box before blaming this top notch device that is selling like hot cakes.... surely the millions of users who have bought aren't facing any issues right? so it must be a problem with your plan ;) whichwas exactly the case because if it can connect on WiFi, means the phone is fine but on your SIM card it isn't detecting a data plan :)

Enjoy your new device bro!

I can never imagine going back to the crappy BlackBerry

Just use Google Maps for a while and see how diff. it is than the BB version. This one actually gives you directions to anywhere you want!!

I was looking for a restaurant called "Maxine" on my brand new / update Garmind 3D GPS and it couldnt find it. Guess what? Google Maps found it immediately and showed me how to get there it was in Dubai Marine :D

With the S3, you can really make use of your smartphone rather than be stuck to a device with only BBM and emails which RIM has made us users think that's the only thing there is to a smart phone ;) But there's MUCH MUCH more!

PS: Make sure to get the Matrix 3D Live Wallpaper! It is the best one I've used out of the whole lot for the S3

IT has a very nice Matrix kinda cube that rotates slowly and changes color with cool effects. and if you swipe the screen left or right or up or down...the cube actually rotates! very realistic! :D

yeah just downloading it. i agree about the google maps. i told my friend after using s3, blackberry feels like stoneage. lmao. any other apps or wallpapers etc. which u can suggest to download?

- SwiftKey 3, takes your whole typing experience to the next level. don't look at what you're typing, just type really fast without looking and watch how SwiftKey's auto correct is so smart that it gets 95% of what you type correctly

- Instagram, for nice after effects of photos you snap

- Evernote, have you notes always available and synchornized/backed up with the evernote server. you can access the same notes on your pc by installing evernote on your pc! Want to edit or add a new note, you can do so from your PC and it is magically on your Galaxy as well thanks to the syncrhonization

- Google Reader, free RSS reader

- CamScanner, the best scanner app that scans images into a PDF that is crisp and clear. I bought the full version license for 4 USD I think

- LightFlow, the best LED notifications app. You can have diff. color lights for diff. evens. For example, if I get a whatsapp messenger message, the LED lights green, if I get a Faceboopk notification, the LED lights blue, if I get an email, the LED lights white...that's how I set it up. It is very easy to set up

- MyBackup Pro, backs aup all your apps so you can reinstall them easier should you have a total device failure or want to revert to an older version of an app because the new update was buggy

- TuneIn Radio, the best internet radio I've used. You can listen to local radio stations all over the world by selecting it from the locations, then you will see a list of those local channels

- Flashlight +, for when you need light in the dark, very strong light I love it

- Shazam, the best song recognition app, let it listen to any song and it will quickly identify it
